Kropman Jossif (1896-1969)

''Kropmann Jossel Ber. A Jew, born 16 october 1896 in Shiauliai Kaunas gubernija as the son of a merchant Leib Kropmann. Lost his mother at age 6 in 1902, and in 1903 the family moved to Tartu. Graduated Tartu Aleksander gymnasium in 1915, and, at the same year entered the Tartu University nature department. After a year switched to medicine. He managed to study until 1918. Later he studied between 1920-1922 and graduated as a doctor. In 1922-1923 he studied ophthalmology in Berlin and in 1924 worked as a volunteer assistent in Tartu hospital.
At the same time he was a chairman of the Tartu Jewish congregation.

Married Zipa (Tsila) Schapiro, had two children - Dan and Gina (Henda).
In 1941 evacuated to Russia (Tshuvashia) and worked as a ophthalmologist in Kuibishev. In 1956 got the Medical Sciencies candidate degree.
1958-1961 he was a director of the Ophtalmology department of the Tartu hospital.
Dr Jossel Kropmann died on 7/8/1969 in Tallinn and is burried at the Rahumäe cemetery.
